Biography
Having graduated with a First in Printed Textiles from his native Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 1993, David has always been influenced by pattern; surface and repeat. He has worked in London and New York, firstly as a silk-screen technician then as a print designer. Since studying for an MA in Design for Interactive Multimedia at Middlesex University in 1997 he has worked in the design industry in London along with teaching BA and MA students in the UK and abroad. He set up Castle Walk Artists' Studios in 2003 as a receptacle for encouraging new and emerging artists to share idea and enable work to be discussed and critiqued within a professional environment.

About my work'My work is difficult to describe in as much as it's mutability comes from the range of media I use. I have recently 'discovered' the versatility of oil painting though I find it essential to experiment with many different forms of mark making; stencilling; silk-screen; drawing; collage; and photography. The amalgam of all of these media (and including oil painting) is the eventual denouement. The combining of techniques harks back to my textile printing where one can 'play' with form, colour and texture in an altogether more investigative way than just solely utilising one specific medium.'

'The work is often referential in as much as it is surrounded by implicit and, occasionally, explicit narrative structures. In 'Tsunami' (above, 1) the painting acts on a range of levels. Pictorially, it conveys movement and a sense of peacefulness. However, underlying this surface are a mass of calculations, statistics and numbers that belie the superficial; the image becomes a sum of it's often hidden parts and therefore questions the nature of meaning and supposition.'
