History
Formely a printers' workshop, this listed building which sits within English Heritage's Castle Grounds, Reigate, was built sometime in the 1920's. It has generally been used by craftspeople including textile designers. It had been abandoned for some 6 years and in a state of disrepair before David and Penny decided to put their dreams into reality and convert it to a shared space for local artists. At first, interest was low and it seemed the dream may have to be curtailed but, over time, a new, younger group of artists have begun to occupy the space and as such have revitalised the project as well as providing creative discourse and shared ideals.
Castle Walk gallery In addition to being part of Castle Walk you will have the additional benefit of use of our new gallery, The Artists' Gallery which is an exciting new venture set up by resident artist, David Johnstone.

How the studio works
Put simply, each artist enters into an agreement with Castle Walk Studios which entails paying one month's rent with a further one month's deposit upfront. This allows the artist to have 24 hour access to their space and use of the communal facilities including the garden (a veritable suntrap during summer months). The rental also includes water rates and limited use of electricity for lighting. Additional heating costs are incurred, a monthly log being available for your to calculate your hours. Costs such as kilns, high voltage appliances and the like are charged additionally. A key deposit of £20.00 is required on entry to the studio.
